If you love canyoning, you must try this gorgeous canyon in Grevena region of Greece! A great activity to add to your holidays in Greece!
Canyoning activity at the roots of mountain Orliakas, close to the historic village of Spileon Grevena, inside the amazing canyon of Kleftis (or Liatissa).
According to an old legend, a thief (during the Ottoman occupation) was persecuted by the Turks and went to the gorge of Liatissa. Realizing the difficulty of passing through to the other side of the canyon, he made a promise that if he succeeded to jump safely, he would build a traditional stone bridge. Since then (around 1800 AD), there is a beautiful stone bridge with one arch there, that connects the two sides of the gorge, The Bridge of Kleftis (bridge of the thief).
The canyoning route begins from another great old stone bridge (Katsogiannis - also built around 1800 AD) and ends right before the bridge of Kleftis. It is a narrow gorge, with a length of almost 1 km and width of up to 4 meters, with rocks on both sides reaching heights of 150 m. Totally dark in a few spots, this route is a unique one.
You can combine this activity with our other tours in the nearby Meteora area.
