Athens Piraeus port – Kythnos port

Your holidays start counting down once you get on board on the ferryboat departing from the port of Piraeus (afternoon departure). After 3 hours, you arrive in the beautiful port of Merichas, welcomed by the tour leader and transferred to your hotel (a family guest house property). Later on, you may enjoy a delicious dinner in a traditional tavern in Merichas village with the companion of your group’s fellows and tour leader providing you with further information about the following days in the island.

Day 2

Merichas – Dryopida – Lefkes

Recharge your batteries with a traditional breakfast and prepare yourselves for a day full of memorable experiences in the heavenly island of Kythnos! Walk through Dryopida mountainous village located in the heart of Kythnos island, meet the locals, admire the red hues of its traditional roof tiles, get impressed by a visit in Kythno’s traditional folklore museum and explore Katafiki cave in north Dryopida, one of the biggest caves in Greece.

Moving on to your journey, catch the sun and breath the fresh Aegean air through a serene countryside walk at Kythno’s trails. In an hourly easy level downhill, let the Greek panoramic scenery captivate your senses until you get lost in the peaceful beach of Lefkes with its crystal clear waters. In Leftkes, we get an hourly rest where you may enjoy swimming, the diversity of the scenery or take a nap beyond the shadows of the tamarisk trees, a few steps from the beach shores and explore the old mines of Kythnos.

After an hourly refreshing break, we all together depart from Lefkes beach moving towards  Dryopida village for a unique authentic village experience. In Dryopida within one of its most beautiful paths, be prepared to taste pure Greek tastes in a traditional tavern and live the ultimate Greek experience from the inside! Under the guidance of a traditional local cook, you will be taught the secrets of Greek cuisine and learn to prepare step by step traditional delicacies such us our signature Greek salad, tzatziki, our regional Sfouggata and much more! Then, in a family style lunch, take a sit within a stunning vivid traditional Cycladic path and enjoy your mouthwatering creations. What more could you ask for to indulge your senses?

Day 3

Merichas – Kolona – Vryokastro

The third day, may fairly be declared as a hiking lovers day! On the way to Vryokastro, within a 2 hour easy level hike, the outstanding wild beauty of the hills, the terrain and sea color palette, as well as a traversal through ruins of the ancient capital of Kythnos, will inevitably seduce your senses. Moving on until reaching famous Kolona, the signature beach of Kythnos. The 240 meter long beach with its golden fat grainy sand and transparent waters, has been named Kolona from the word “column” due to its uniqueness and distinctive morphological shape, embracing Aegean’s waters from both sides. After an hour and a half break for swimming and photo shooting in this alluring destination, the road to return seems as a tough decision! After the exploration reaches its climax, your tour guide will transfer you back at your hotel for relaxing. In the evening you will explore by car the south part of the island to see the landscape and the beautiful sunset from the historical church  of Madonna of Stratolatissa which was built with the typical Cycladic architecture and maybe a little bit of off road experience until the church of “Sotiros” and to a unique farm to taste fresh fruits like peach, pomegranate or figs depending on the period or to see the hives and to feed the donkeys!

Day 4

Medieval exploration

After your breakfast you will visit the capital of the island, the traditional village of Chora or Messaria. During this sightseeing tour you will discover the traditional architecture of the Cyclades and the secret historical treasures of the island as the “Catholicon” which was the last catholic church of Kythnos and now is an open museum. Later on you will start your hiking to the north part of the island. You will explore (after two hours of hiking) the Castle of Oria which was the medieval capital of Kythnos. The castle was also called ‘’Castle of Thermia” the other name of Kythnos because of the hot springs in the island that were famous since the Roman era. The castle destroyed by the Turkish pirate Barbarossa.

During our hiking back, you will enjoy the panoramic view of the north port of the island, the village of Loutra. During our stay in Loutra you may swim and relax at the famous thermal springs which are very popular during the high season, for their therapeutic properties. At the end of our exploration, your guide will take you back at your hotel for resting and you will be free to enjoy your evening at Merichas or you can arrange an evening tour for coffee or dinner at Chora.

Day 5

Agios Konstantinos- Flampouria- Merichas

On the last day in Kythnos, you will explore the biggest part of the west island. Today’s hike begins from the small church of Agios Konstantinos and within a 2 hours easy level downhill hike, you will see the notable wild beauty of the hills, the landscape and the deep blue of the Aegean sea before you. We will take a break at Flabouria, a long sandy and pebble beach. The end of this activity may surprise you! It would be impossible to leave Kythnos without a cultural walk at “kelia”, the historical unplastered farmhouses with the amazingly colorful garden.

As the tour comes to its end, you may catch the sea for a quick refreshing swim at Martinakia beach prior to your departure and set your plans on board for your next trip to Greece!
