Day 1

Welcome To Kalamata

Arrival Day. Get any flight arriving to Kalamata. Meet your guide in Kalamata airport or Kalamata bus station for a memorable drive throught the mountains to your hotel in the village of Anavryti. Settle into a charming family – run hotel and enjoy a welcome meze with ouzo overlooking a mountainous landscape. Your guide will brief you on the activities that will follow in the next two days.

Day 2

Meet Taygetos

Meet your guide at 9:00 am at your hotel. After breakfast, depart on a 5 hour hike from Anavriti village to the shelter of the Hellenic Mountaineering Association. Our route, part of the European E4 trail, takes us to the heart of Taygetos by traversing the eastern slopes, parallel to the mountain ridge. We walk through fir and pine forests, gorges with flowing waters and natural springs. Halfway we fill our bottles with fresh water and make a relaxing stop for a light lunch with local traditional delicacies. As we arrive at the shlter at an altitude of 1550 m, the stunning panoramic view is a good reward for our effort. We enjoy dinner and a charming overnight at the shelter.

Day 3

Back to Kalamata

Wake up at the shelter and take your time to enjoy a Greek breakfast. Today is the summit’s day. The summit is renowned for its pyramid shape and its unique views. Leaving behind the shelter we soon reach the alpine zone where the undergrowth of mountain herbs and wildflowers are dominant. We reach the so called ‘’immortal ridge’’ and in a few steps we touch the summit plateau. The view from the top is breathtaking as our gaze fades away to all corners of the horizon. We enjoy light lunch to get our “batteries” charged and we take the way back where we finish the day in noontime at Maganari spring for a transfer back to Kalamata.
